Where Should Threads and TikTok Replies and DMs Go?

A bakery example showing where and how to answer menu, booking, and same-day stock questions.

October 18, 2026

Once a post is live, questions arrive as comments and DMs. You may check several inboxes, but customers should still get one consistent answer. Decide which questions belong in each channel and who is responsible for checking them.

Imagine someone comments on a bakery video: “Do you still have scones?” Do not let yesterday’s automated reply guess today’s stock. A staff member can check and answer in the comments. For a cake booking or a change to an order, direct the customer to the shop’s existing booking page or a private message. Avoid asking people to post phone numbers or order details in public.

Give each question a clear home

  • A simple menu question: Reply in the Threads conversation or TikTok comments where it was asked.

  • A booking or order change: Use the booking page or DM the shop already monitors.

  • Stock or same-day hours: Ask a staff member to verify before replying.

  • Spam or abuse: Hide or report it according to the shop’s moderation practice.

If one person covers both channels, keep the latest promise in one shared record. A note like “Friday pickup moved to 3 p.m.” helps another teammate continue the conversation without offering a different time. Keep names and order details out of public comments; move them to the shop’s established booking channel.

Automate only what stays true

Regular hours, the shop location, and a weekly closing day are good candidates for an automatic reply. “Are you open today?”, “Is anything left?”, and “When will my order be ready?” depend on current conditions. Assign those to someone who can check. For example: “We review comments and DMs at 1 and 5 p.m. on business days; same-day stock questions go to the floor team.”

If a reply is paid for or part of a sponsorship, make the relationship clear so it is not mistaken for an independent customer recommendation. Check that a posted price, discount, or stock count still matches the current offer, and update any pinned reply when those details change.

Replies you can adapt

Stock: “Today’s scones go on sale at 1 p.m. Availability can change, so a team member can check for you.”

Booking: “We’ll need to look up the order to change a booking. Please use the booking link in our profile and include your order number there.”

Hours: “We’re open today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. We’re regularly closed on Mondays.”

Managing comments and DMs together does not mean forcing every conversation into one public thread. Answer simple questions where they were asked, then move private details or scheduling to a secure channel the shop already uses. A named owner and a realistic checking schedule keep the conversation going after the post is published.
