A Handover Checklist for Accounts, Source Files, and Licenses

If the screen is on and the keys are not in your name, you accepted a rental. Close names, editable originals, and license scope on one table.

September 4, 2026

Monday after launch. The site is on. The vendor’s mail is out of office. The web font turns into squares. Figma is view-only. The hosting login is a personal inbox. The screen looks like ours. What you accepted was a rental.

The last piece split error from request with one line. Even if that line closes, if the keys are not in your name the deliverable is still a screen. A person who hires well praises the screen, then unfolds accounts, originals, and licenses.

This is not legal advice. It is operations: do not leave a box empty.

The Monday access fails

Monday’s block is not dramatic. The page a customer sees is still there. When you try to change a word, there is no door. When you try to buy the font, the card is theirs. When you try to reuse a photo on another channel, the source box is empty.

A person who hires well treats this Monday as the body of acceptance, not an accident after the sale. If Friday’s lit screen did not close the list, Monday arrives like this. An out-of-office is not a grudge. It is a record that keys did not move.

If “we’ll pack it later” appears three times in the acceptance week, later is this Monday. Take later as kindness, and you keep only the screen. Kindness keeps a relationship. Keys do not. A relationship whose keys did not move meets the same out-of-office next week.

Many rooms remember Monday as an exception. An exception that repeats becomes the body. A person who hires well already seats that Monday as the last box on the acceptance list. If the last box is empty, the prettiness of the earlier boxes thins. Pretty does not open a door. A name does. A name moving is acceptance.

The split between a screen and a deliverable

A screen is where persuasion ended. A deliverable is where you can edit, publish, and move permission tomorrow. Call them the same word, and persuasion stands in for the package.

A person who hires well looks at three bundles only. Accounts. Originals. Licenses. Once those three have names, acceptance has begun. That is separate from how finished the screen looks. An awkward screen with your keys can be fixed. A smooth screen without keys must be borrowed again next week.

A single copyright line in the contract, with these three bundles missing, sits close to a rental. Monday proves why the last chapter called copyright without originals a lease. The day that proves it is always after the screen is on. Before that, one line looks enough. Open the door after it is on, and you see how thin the line was.

The reason the three bundles slip is usually the same. The screen is urgent. When the screen is urgent, keys go later. Keys that went later move at the speed of someone’s time off. A person who hires well respects that urgency and still puts the key box on the same day. If it is not the same day, the keys become another project. Keys that became another project are what you hunt after payment. That Monday is not new work. It is an unclosed box.

What it means for accounts to move

An account moving is not receiving a link. It is a change of name. Domain, hosting, store, analytics, a font subscription, outbound mail. The login address is your domain. The second factor is your phone. If a departed person’s personal inbox is the only key, the screen still lives on their desk.

A person who hires well does not count a shared demo login as handover. A shared login is a visit. A visit can switch the lights on. It cannot switch them off or move them. If a name change is not on the calendar inside the window, that box is an open line.

A screen with only one admin is the same signal. When that person is away, operations stop. A second admin on your side is what makes the account transferred. A password on a memo is not a transfer either. A memo stays on one desk. Name and second factor have to move for the book to change hands.

A quiet door like analytics is the same. The screen is on and the numbers stack on their board. If the invite dies after payment, you operate without seeing. A person who hires well does not take only the hosting you can see. They look at whether every door you will open tomorrow is in your name.

What it means for originals to move

An original is not an exported JPG. It is a file you can open again. The source of a layout, a repository, a document whose words you can still change. A cloud folder with view-only rights is not an original. A folder of screenshots is not a memory you can edit.

A person who hires well marks the line closed only after the files are copied into your drive. An invite into their folder still makes you a guest. If the folder closes after the guest exports, Monday’s square letters return.

The originals list does not have to be grand. It only needs, for each screen you will edit tomorrow, which file you open. Without that pairing, “we received the copyright” is an empty box. An empty box comes back as hiring again for the next edit. That hire looks like a new start. It is the place last acceptance stopped at the screen.

An invite to a repository without export rights still keeps the original in their house. Showing a guest around the house and moving the luggage to yours are different events. A person who hires well does not write one invite email as a transfer. They close the line after the file appears in your space.

What it means for a license to carry your name

Fonts and photographs are often used only inside the scope of a license. A copyright owner may permit use, and the licensee uses the work only in the method and conditions granted. Passing that permission to someone else needs consent again.(1)(2)

A web font uploaded on a studio subscription turns into squares on Monday if the subscription stays in their name. A stock file may sit in your folder and still refuse another channel if the named user and the permitted places are theirs. A screen being on and you being allowed to keep using it are different boxes.

A person who hires well leaves three lines in the license box. What. In whose name. Where it may be used. If a line is empty, they do not publish. A Monday spent hunting a source after publish is acceptance that arrived late. This piece does not stand in for a ruling. It only looks at whether name and scope were written. With the box filled, Monday’s squares are usually visible in advance. Without it, the squares always arrive as a surprise.

Small files — an icon set, map tiles — drop out of the box first. The small things that became part of the screen empty all at once when a subscription ends. A person who hires well does not write only the large hero photo. The small permissions that hold the screen sit on the same table. Small boxes gather to turn the screen on. A missing small box makes Monday.

Acceptance on one page

Accounts

Originals

Licenses

If missing

Named owners and second factors for domain, hosting, store, analytics, font subscription

Editable layouts, repositories, and documents copied into your space

Named user and channel scope for fonts, photos, icons

The screen stays on and you cannot edit. If the contact is gone, operations stop

The four columns can be read as one line. Accounts move, originals copy, a license carries your name — then the thing that happens when they are missing does not happen. Leave one column empty, and the leftover screen is what persuasion left behind. Call the leftover a deliverable, and next Monday is the same. The deliverable’s name comes from keys that moved, not from the screen.

The real deliverable is not the screen. It is accounts, files, and licenses.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

If the site is on, did we receive it?

The screen is where persuasion ended. Names, originals, and licenses are the package.

Is a shared demo login enough?

That is a visit. Login address and second factor must sit on your side.

An invite to Figma — is that the original?

View-only still makes you a guest. Copy an editable file into your space.

Are JPGs originals?

An export is a picture. Open the file you will edit tomorrow.

Can we keep the studio’s font?

Name and scope must sit on your side, or Monday turns into squares.

Is this legal advice?

No. Operations: do not leave a box empty.

Is a copyright clause enough?

If originals and license boxes are empty, that clause sits close to a rental.

Only one admin?

When that person is away, operations stop. You need a second admin on your side.
