Where Should a Shop Handle Customer Questions and Reviews?

Choose where customer questions and reviews belong. Keep support answers consistent, disclose review incentives clearly, and use genuine customer experiences.

September 13, 2026

Even with a clear product page, shoppers may still ask about delivery, options, stock, or how to use an item. Reviews answer a different need: they share customers’ own experiences. Decide where each kind of message belongs, and make sure the team can see the full conversation before replying.

Meet customers in the channels they use

For a Smart Store shop, start with the store’s product Q&A and Naver TalkTalk. Channel Talk’s guide says sellers can connect TalkTalk and respond from its inbox; it also supports Smart Store seller inquiries and product Q&A. The connection has limits: for example, replies in Channel Talk may not update the inquiry status in Naver TalkTalk, so staff may still need to check the Naver partner center.(1) Check the current setup and limits before relying on a combined inbox.

For your own shop, a website chat tool or a messenger channel can bring conversations together. Choose a contact option customers already know how to use, and tell the team where to record the final answer. When several people handle inquiries, keep the latest promise and its source in one shared place.

Use automatic replies for information that does not change, such as business hours or where to find tracking. Questions about current stock, custom requests, or whether an item is defective need a person to check the details before answering.

Keep customer questions in the support channel and reviews in the review section. They serve different purposes.

Keep reviews genuine and disclose incentives

A review can help shoppers compare the listed measurements and details with someone’s actual experience. If a reviewer received money, a free item, points, or another benefit, make that relationship clear and easy to notice. The right wording and placement can depend on the format; a vague label such as “review event” may not tell shoppers what the reviewer received.(2)

Do not present a person who did not buy or use the item as a verified customer. The Korea Fair Trade Commission has taken action over fabricated reviews made to look like real purchases.(3) Do not condition a reward on a positive rating. If you quote or feature an incentivized review on the product page, keep its disclosure with the quote.

AI-generated or staged material should not be presented as a real customer’s firsthand review. Identify it clearly so shoppers can tell what is a customer account and what is illustrative content.

Choose the right place for each message

Avoid

Customers ask about a marketplace listing

Its Q&A and linked messaging channel

Adding another contact route before it is needed

Your website and messenger both receive questions

A shared inbox, with clear ownership

Conflicting answers to the same customer

A customer leaves a review

The platform’s review area

Hiding a benefit or changing what the customer said

You feature a sponsored or rewarded review

The quote with its disclosure

Making it look like an unsolicited review

Example: one size question, one review

A shopper asks, “The ivory shirt has a 52 cm chest width. Is that my usual size M?” Reply in the store Q&A with the measurement and a reminder to compare it with a garment they own. If you repeat the answer in TalkTalk, use the same figure. A 52 cm answer in one channel and 54 cm in another creates confusion.

If a website form and messenger both receive questions, bring them into one inbox if the tools support it. Set an owner for each conversation. An automatic message can point to the published shipping schedule; a person should check the order before promising an exchange or deciding whether an item is defective.

Suppose you offer reward points for an honest review. Ask for the customer’s genuine experience, regardless of whether it is positive, and state clearly that points were offered. Do not call someone a buyer if they did not purchase the shirt. If you quote that review on the product page, keep the incentive disclosure beside the quote.

Before outsourcing support or content work, specify which channel receives each inquiry, where the team records its answer, and how incentives are disclosed when reviews are featured. That makes it easier to keep every reply and quotation accurate.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can we run an incentivized review event?

Yes, but clearly disclose what the reviewer receives and do not make a positive rating a condition. Check the platform’s review-event rules.

Can we buy reviews and post them?

Do not present someone as a buyer if they did not purchase or use the item. Keep incentivized reviews genuine and disclose the benefit clearly.

What if questions arrive in several inboxes?

Combine them where possible and assign an owner. Check the original platform too if its inquiry status does not sync.

Are automatic replies enough?

Use them for fixed information such as business hours or tracking instructions. A person should check stock, exchanges, and defect questions.

Can we feature an incentivized review on the product page?

Yes, with a clear disclosure beside the quote. Do not crop it in a way that makes a rewarded review look unsolicited.
